Making a List and Checking It Twice

A little late, yes; however, it proves how important this post is. We want to accomplish so much in our lives and at times it feels near impossible.  I tell my wife it all the time: life is a balancing act between family life, career, personal endeavors and finding time to relax.  So, how do we make the most out of everyday?  It starts with taking time out of your busy schedule to make a schedule.  Previously, I mentioned making SMART goals.  It’s best that its written down, that way you can always refer back to it and visually see it everyday.  When you write down your goal, underneath it or beside it, write down your path to achieving that goal or task.  By writing your goals this way, it can seem more attainable than just one goal or one task.

When I’m at work, I have several tasks a day I need to accomplish.  I’m responsible for many completely different billets.  What I need to do in order to get the most out of everyday, is I have a notebook specifically for work and I write down a detailed list of everything I need to accomplish for each billet.  Under each goal or task, I ensure to put a due no later than by date to make sure I do not fall behind.  I also have a schedule written of tasks I have to accomplish each day, such as Monday update this, or Thursday ensure workplaces are cleaned up.  Same thing goes for personal endeavors.  If you have a goal of going on a trip to a different country, write out the tasks in order to accomplish it.  What is needed for you to accomplish it.  One thing is a passport, second thing is money, third thing is an itinerary etc.

Looking at all of these celebrities, it may seem that they have it all and got it so easily, but if you really think about it, they had to put in some sort of effort to get there.  Some actresses and actors have their agents keep a schedule for them to make sure they have enough time to meet their deadlines.  Same thing goes for sports stars.  I’ve recently been playing NBA 2k17 and one of the objectives in MyCareer is juggling sponsors, family, teammates and getting better in the gym.  If you don’t balance all of that, you will never become a true star in the game.  Your player has an agent who keeps track of all of the endorsement offers and practices.  If that agent wasn’t there to keep track of the goals to success, the player would never be a success.  Same thing goes for you.  Write it down!  Get that notebook out!  Get that daily planner out!  Whatever it takes to help you get organized and to help you make the most out of your day, you need to do it.  Write down everything or you will not live up to your true potential.

  1. I’m the kind of person who sort of does whatever pops into his mind. However, after being married now for a few years, I’ve come to realize that what pops in my head isn’t what my wife expects. I have a notebook now where my wife can write down things things she would like done around the house, church, or even travel plans. It really helps me not only stay organized, but know what kinds of tasks make my wife happy. I hate tasks, so if I get a choice, I do whatever I want which leaves the crap for someone else. This way, I can take on some of the jobs I don’t enjoy, knowing everyone is happy.

Writing stuff down really works for me! But I also know it doesn’t always work for others.

Great post though, and great advice!
