Be the Difference

I am a true advocate of being the difference you want to see in the world.  You want people to quit complaining so much? Start with yourself! Stop complaining about everything! You wish the world was more sincere?  Start with your own random acts of kindness! You wish the less fortunate were more fortunate? Go volunteer and help them!

Today, I was able to fly back to my family after a month of being away.  I was so excited to get to the airport, I arrived 3 and a half hours before my flight was scheduled to depart.  I pull up to the counter and hand them my I.D. to pick up my tickets.  They got a new system today and were working through a lot of bugs.  The lady tells me that she can’t find any reservation for me.  I pull out my itinerary from my bag and I hand it to the woman, who’s name is Faith.  She starts looking up the reservation numbers going through the process of finding it.  Still can’t.  She asks a co-worker, “why can’t I find this?”  This co-worker starts looking it up and suggests it wasn’t paid for.  Another co-worker comes over and asks what’s going on. The situation is explained again.  This woman says that I need to make some calls to fix the issue; however, Faith is not buying it.  She makes her own phone call and finds out the exact reason.  She tells me that there is a reservation; however, my company did not pay for it, yet.  She asked me if I knew who I needed to call and I did.

The point of this story is this woman went out of her way to help someone out.  In most cases, I guarantee you that if that were someone else, they would have dismissed it and made me figure it out on my own.  As a matter of fact, I had a co-worker in the same bind prior to my arrival at the airport.  They told him to make some phone calls and he did.  The man missed his flight relying on other people to come through, while I was able to make my flight with plenty of time to spare.  This woman was the difference maker for me to see my family again without any problems.  That is the difference maker we need in this world.  Someone who truly cares about helping other people.  Be the difference you want to see in the world.  The world isn’t going to be exactly the way you want it to be tomorrow, but you can still impact it in a positive way.
