What I learned over the weekend…

This weekend forced me into doing some research.  This weekend we are dealing with the government shutting down.  This shutdown effects over 800,000 federal employees.  Because the government shutdown, I had to do research to see what would happen next and how it effects my family and I.

1.  Stay in the know.

It’s important to pay attention to what’s going on in the world.  There is a lot of information being passed through the media and it’s up to you to do your research to figure out what is actually going on and what it means for you and others.  Everybody passes their opinions vice facts and it’s up to you to take their opinion as your own or learn the issue yourself.  Bottom line: do your research.

2.  Take responsibility.

With the government shutdown, everyone is pointing fingers at someone else and not a single person is taking responsibility.  Because everyone is pointing fingers, no one is taking action on the issue at hand.  Instead of playing the blame game, either take responsibility for the actions or work on solving the problem as soon as possible.

3.  Creating good habits.

Being away from my family has given me the perfect opportunity to create good habits.  It might sound easy to do, but studies how it takes 21 days to make a habit.  The hardest step is the first step, the second hardest step is the second.  It’s one thing to finally start, it’s another to continue to move forward.  Since I’ve been here, I’ve written down better plans to help me create better plans, it’s now time to apply what I wrote down.

4. Wake up with a purpose

It’s so easy to sleep in on the weekends because you’ve woken up early throughout the week, but it’s not about how you start, it’s about how you finish.  Wake up with a purpose, stay off your phone for the first hour and read your to-do list.  Write down what you want to get done for the day and get it done.  Don’t hit the snooze button and let your day slip away from you.  A new day means you have the ability to accomplish so much more.  Don’t waste it.

5.  You’re never out of it

This weekend was the AFC Championship.  If anyone missed it, New England was down by 10 points in the fourth quarter and although I am a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, I have to admit Tom Brady is the Greatest Of All Time.  He had everything going against him in the game, going up against the best defense he has faced all year with an injury to his throwing hand.  He managed to keep the team into it and ended up winning the game, advancing to the Super Bowl.  It just goes to show you, no matter what life throws at you, you are always still in the game and have a chance to win.  Never give up!
