In a world where we have so many things we want to do in our life, our to-do list never ends. A never-ending to-do list isn’t bad, but it is certainly overwhelming. We want to see progress in our life, but it doesn’t seem fast enough with our laundry list of tasks. So how do we shorten that to-do list and how do we avoid getting overwhelmed? The power of 3.
When we have big dreams and goals, what do we do to help not get overwhelmed? We create bite-sized goals in order to make the goals more achievable. The same thing goes with your to-do list.
Each day, prioritize your goals and tasks, but only schedule 3 of them. Focus all of your energy on those 3 goals throughout the day and if/when you accomplish those 3 tasks, you can look at your long to-do list. Once you complete your goals for the day, you can use that moment to take care of something else that was less important. Or, you can choose to relax and enjoy the rest of your day. The choice is yours.
If you have a long to-do list, you have to prioritize. Which tasks must you get done immediately? Which tasks can you put off? Focus on your top 3.
I use my planner to establish what the 3 priorities of the day are. I have a separate list where I keep all the tasks I need to accomplish and I just focus on the priorities. It helps me not get overwhelmed and also not spend energy unnecessarily. When I successfully accomplish the three tasks, it gives me the momentum to begin taking on other tasks, especially those I’ve been putting off.
At the end of the day, I journal to release any unresolved feelings and emotions that I have, but I also write down what it is I accomplished. It helps me express gratitude for life.
What are the top 3 things you will get done today?
